ELMHURST-Elmhurst resident Jeff Redick filed nominating petitions today for DuPage County Board District 2 with the DuPage County Election Commission. Redick’s petitions include the signatures of approximately 1,200 District 2 voters. Candidates were required to file at least 81 signatures to be placed on the March 21, 2006 Republican Primary ballot.
“The petition drive was a great opportunity to meet the voters of District 2, talk with them about the issues that matter to them, and tell them why I’m running for County Board,” said Redick. As I walked the neighborhoods of District 2, knocking on the doors of voters, my message was warmly welcomed.”
Filing nominating petitions is typically considered the official start for political campaigns. For Redick, the successful petition drive provided a strong start to his campaign. It is significant that more volunteers came out and circulated petitions on Redick’s behalf, than actual signatures required to get on the ballot. “I’m honored that so many people helped me get on the ballot. I am humbled to have such tremendous support and help from so many friends and neighbors. For many of my volunteers, this is the first time they’ve worked on a campaign. I won’t let them down. I pledge to run a strong campaign and provide responsive representation once elected.”
District 2 includes all, or parts, of Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Westmont, Downers Grove, Lisle, Woodridge, Elmhurst, Villa Park, Oakbrook Terrace, Oak Brook and Lombard. Redick’s petitions include signatures from citizens of every town in District 2. “That is evidence of the strength of my campaign and the district-wide support that I have received,” said Redick. “I know that this is just the first step, but it is the first step in the right direction … victory,” he summed up.
