Driven by a desire to enact meaningful common sense reforms, Jeff Redick put his personal and professional life on hold and ran for the DuPage County Board in 2006. “I live and work in District 2 where I run a business and raise a family,” Redick said at the time. “The people of this District require and deserve strong representation and leadership on the County Board.”
Despite the long odds, Redick successfully defeated a politically entrenched 20 year incumbent Board Member. Based on the strength of his high energy campaign, strong knowledge of the issues and a well defined reform plan, Redick earned recognition as one of the Daily Herald’s Newsmakers of the Year in 2006.
Since bursting on to the scene with his upset election victory, Redick has developed a reputation as a strong and independent voice for the people of District 2. Immediately upon being elected he helped lead the fight to implement policy changes that required long-term budgeting and promoted decentralization of power. Redick said “These are the types of changes that the good people of DuPage County have called for.” The changes were applauded by government watch dog groups like the Citizen Advocacy Center and endorsed by the Sun Publication editorial Board.
Jeff Redick spear-headed efforts to enact cutting edge Ethics and Transparency Policy changes. The sweeping ethics reform ordinance was touted as the benchmark for comprehensive ethics reform in Illinois in the Villa Park Independent.
In keeping true to his word about fiscal responsibility, Jeff Redick voted to reduce the county budget by $30 million and reduce the property tax levy on DuPage County homeowners.
He led the fight against a proposed $70 million bond proposal calling the borrowing plan, “another example of government borrowing money to pay for today’s activities with no regard for the future costs to taxpayers.” He also introduced a personnel policy reform package to save the county $28 million. The reform proposal that was passed by the County Board was lauded by the Daily Herald as a model for other government bodies to follow.
Always putting people and principles ahead of politics has been the trademark of Jeff Redick’s service to the people of DuPage County District 2.
